What is met gala?

Named after the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, the Met Gala is a celebration of the annual fashion show, which opens to the public on May 5.

It’s essentially the opening party and fundraiser for the annual fashion show curated by the Costume Institute, the museum’s fashion department, and the Met’s only self-funding curatorial department.

The Met Gala or Met Ball, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala or Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual benefit gala hosted by the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

It is widely regarded as the most prestigious fashion event in the world and invitations are highly sought after. Celebrities from all walks of life including fashion, film, television, theatre, music, business, sports, social media and politics are invited to the evening organized by fashion magazine Vogue.

The 2022 Met Gala takes place tonight (Monday, May 2) in New York City. It celebrates the second volume of the two-part Costume Institute exhibition. Like last year, the Met Gala red carpet will be broadcast live on Vogue.com starting at 5:30 p.m. ET. Then walk until the last guest (i.e. Rihanna) arrives. This year’s Vogue hosts aren’t Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer (I’ll miss them), but Vogue editor-in-chief Hamish Bowles, Vanessa Hudgens and actress and TV personality La La Anthony. You can electron! 2018 Met Gala shared

A waiter at the 2018 Met Gala shared that after the red carpet walks, guests will be invited to see the Costume Institute exhibit, Insiders reported. Then they have a cocktail party and enjoy live performances. Afterwards, guests can sit down to dinner, which is said to last an hour.
